TRASH THE CAPTURE GUILT
Dear Global Educators,
As we aspire to make impact beyond our classrooms, it's common to have the capture guilt when we feel like we are so vain to have our learners repeat a class chant or a sentence so we can record it because we just realized its amazing and could make a real impact out there for an educator or a student. If you have ever had this feeling, my dear, you’re not alone and I’m here to tell you -Trash that it!
Looking back on my own journey, I've realized the importance of sharing our experiences as educators. While it might seem self-centered to record moments of success, sharing them can inspire others in ways we can't imagine.
I remember a moment in 2022 when I realized the English text I was using for lessons was too advanced for my students. Instead of giving up, I recorded myself reading the story and added pictures to aid comprehension. When I shared the video, my students loved it. To my surprise, educators around the world also found it helpful, leading to requests to replicate in their own classrooms. This shows how sharing our work can have a big impact.
In 2021, one of my students got a scholarship because someone saw my work and recommended me to an individual who wanted to give a scholarship to a cold in need. Similarly, in 2022, a software developer offered to teach robotics to my students for free after seeing my posts on LinkedIn.
These stories remind us that our work matters beyond our classrooms. By sharing what we do, we can inspire others and make a difference on a larger scale. Let's keep sharing our journey, spreading our successes, and inviting others to join us.
I am learning that in this world of making global impact hiding your journey is a sin! Ladies and Gentlemen, there’s someone out there waiting to resonate with your own kind of journey. Let’s not “see ourselves finish” - don’t look down on the uniqueness you have to offer the world.
Yours in global impact,
